President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. led the inauguration of San Miguel Global Power’s (SMGP) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Limay Power Plant today, March 31, 2023.
Joining him were SMC CEO, Mr. Ramon Ang, Department of Energy (DOE) Sec. Raphael P.M. Lotilla and other distinguished guests.
After a simple ceremonial ribbon cutting, Mr. Ang took Pres. Marcos on a quick BESS site tour before proceeding to the tent event.
In his speech, Governor Jose Enrique S. Garcia III stressed the Provincial Government of Bataan’s (PGB) initiatives to achieve energy independence while reaffirming its commitment to reducing the carbon footprint.
“That is why we are incredibly proud and appreciative of our partnership with San Miguel Corporation, which is once again spearheading an innovative energy project that aligns with Bataan’s vision of achieving quality growth fueled by their verified economic investments.” Gov. Garcia added.
Meanwhile, Pres. Marcos applauded SMC’s energy project initiatives to mitigate the country’s power supply issues, and generate greener jobs for Filipinos.
“All we need now are these battery farms that we are seeing today…This technology is carving a distinct path through a more energy-secure and sustainable future. It is clean. It has zero emissions. Zero extraction. No noise pollution,” Pres. Marcos said.
The project aims to provide a solution to the increasing demand and price of electricity in the country by storing energy from both non-renewable and renewable sources of energy.
The project also seeks to create a sustainable and resilient energy system for the benefit of the environment and economy.
